New colorful parts from Brick Lane Bikes in London for 2011. To be honest, I'd be only interested in those quill stems but then again Ebay is always full on nice old stems which I'd prefer anyway.

Here's something I've wanted for a long time; Mavic Piste Ensemble 1000 sealed bearing bolt-on track hubs from mid 1980s. The NOS/NIB ones pictured above are on Ebay at the moment, with 420€ or $585 starting price.

Fiksikeskarit from T/N/T/S on Vimeo.
A documentary short movie about the long-running Yksivaihde.net Wednesday Tricks & Beers Social Night, filmed and edited by tnts in Töölö, Helsinki. This is about as rad as it gets around here.
Oh well, I feel sorry that I missed this week's sesh when the filming took place. And while I'm no movie critic I detect a flavor of Finnish modern cinema in Aki Kaurismäki's vein, bit of Cinéma Vérité and even a hint of classic Italian Neorealism somewhere in there.

Makers of Rapha's Rouleur road cycling magazine have decided to do a MTB magazine, Privateer. Which is nice, now were only waiting for Rapha's MTB range of clothing, right? As well as from their website, you can also get the first issue of Privateer from Wiggle.
Also, interestingly Rapha has completely dropped their 'Fixed' products, or actually changed all of them over into their City Riding line instead. Sign of the times?
Anyway, I'm happy with this because I just got me a new rigid steel single speed 650B (yes...) MTB, my first proper off-road bike in years.

VPCX Lupauksenvuori - First Lap! from Raparperi McCyclist on Vimeo.
VPCX is a totally unofficial free for all -style cyclocross race series that takes place around Finland in various locations. Today's race was in Laajalahti, Espoo. And yes, there were guys doing it fixed too.

"A car horn cries out.
There’s a Lexus in my intersection. I must skid to avoid a Yamaguchi-fork-destroying impact. I lift myself off the saddle, thrust myself forward to my stem in a bluntly sexual manner, and lock my legs. A skid! A glorious skid! I whip my rear wheel to the right, then left, then right, as my momentum slows, my Gatorskin making a deafening cry.
The car has passed. I am free to continue my morning quest."
Dear readers, I really do think you need to donate some of your precious time to reading The King's sweet fixie blog:
EPIC FIXED GEAR RIDES TO WORK.
"49:18. Go as hard as you can. Build speed. MASH! Mash on those pink Odyessy pedals. You’re a brute! You’re an Urban Gladiator. Destroy the asphalt. If you are victorious, the streets are yours."
This awesome edit reminds me that I completely forgot to mention that that previous attempt failed because the guys ran out of money, or got bored, or just decided to stay in Denver drinking brewskies and smoking some dank nugs or whatever.

It's the 10-9 day today. Pay respect where respect is due and yes, I remember that last year my 10-9 post somehow rubbed some people the wrong way, which just gives me all the more reason to do this again.
Anyhow, if you're interested in the bike messenger "culture" (I hate using the term culture like that...) of the New York City's 1980s Glory Days, you might wanna pick up Fast Eddie Williams' photo book "Bike Messenger Life".

No Cassettes Vol II Eugene Hood from Chris Fonseca on Vimeo.
Now here's some real throwback old school MASHing stuff like back from 2007 or something. Bombing hills, San Francisco, Cannondale Track and that... Just kidding, of course. It's the trailer for No Casettes 2.

This is Rossin is special, and it's on Ebay right now!
"The frame was build by Mario Rossin in 1988 for Vyacheslav Yekimov as member of the Russian Olympic Track Cycling Team and sold by him in 1988 to a member of the RV Zurich."
