Helsinki - Borgå - Helsinki

The traditional season's opening ride again, 120km or bit more from Helsinki to Porvoo and back again, with the classic cobblestoned hill sprints up the Church Hill in Porvoo. Track bikes, road bikes, single speeds, whatever anyone fancies.

Narrow Bars

The one and only pro roadie I know just posted this article about some new trends in the pro peloton for 2013 on his FB and I just had to pick up this passage:

"Urban messengers and their fakenger cousins have long known about narrow bars letting you squeeze in between traffic, even cutting their bars shorter than the width of their hips. There’s a benefit in racing too as riders can get into smaller gaps with narrower bars, something that matters for sprint trains. However high speed stability and control can be sacrificed."

Le Sarko

OT fo'sho but whatever.

Message to all my French friends out there: despite the fact that he rides a bike and dresses in all black while at it, do NOT vote for a guy who goes road cycling on a modern bike with clips and straps. Ok?

Big Ring Riding Is Awesome

Awesome blog, that is. Strictly for MASHERZ, not spinners.

Featuring mostly great vintage road racing photos with pretty entertaining commentary.

I'd say check it out: http://www.bigringriding.com/

Thanks ASB.

FS: Nesti Crono

Bit off topic but whatever.

My secret Italian source has this neat looking Nesti time trial bike for sale for about 500€, shipped/negotiable. The size is 55x55cm. There's plenty more detailed pics and the bike geek in me really loves the rare Ofmega Mistral cranks on the bike. IMHO the coolest crankset design ever.

Anyway if you're interested, send me a message and I'l hook you up. The guy has more interesting geared Italian gems for sale too, like a real sweet 1970s Masi Corsa, a Bianchi, a Rossin, a Tommassini etc.

Back In The Days...

... when road cycling was still truly Epic. Or just bit more like cyclocross today, maybe?

HELLsinki Spring Classic: HKI - Porvoo HKI 2011

The road cycling season has been officially opened yesterday with the traditional Helsinki - Porvoo - Helsinki Spring Classic. Lots of people showed up for the 110km or so ride, second half of it against heavy wind as usual. Fun times!

Photos by Daniel and Paulus, there's plenty more behind the links. Thanks.

KL to JB

From Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru from duraath on Vimeo.

Two dudes, two days, 300+km from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru (that's the Malaysian side border town next to Singapore, fyi). Respect. I've actually taken the train from JB to KL some six years ago and it took the whole damn day running through endless oil palm plantations but riding on the side of the highway doesn't look much nicer either.

Chesterfield King

And for the record: I don't smoke but this is one of my all-time favorite songs so if I did, I'd smoke only Chesterfield Kings. Yeah, I'm like that.

Brewster Ride

Brewster Ride from cycleangelo on Vimeo.

Seems like a fun ride. I myself would probably ride geared since I dig my 'nago so much, and I'm lazy like that.

Rapha's Northern Hell

While the real Hell of the North, Paris-Roubaix, is on next Sunday, Rapha have their own ride travelling north from London (some Brits seem to sometimes consider Essex as Hell, I guess?) on the same day.
