Honda Gear Concept
Hey, yes. It is a car. But not just any old Honda:
"Honda says the Gear Concept takes its inspiration from the fixed-gear bicycle scene, and should allow buyers an unprecedented level of customization. Designers also wanted to show that a car can be both fun and practical."

Thanks to tnts for spotting this.

Narrow Bars
The one and only pro roadie I know just posted this article about some new trends in the pro peloton for 2013 on his FB and I just had to pick up this passage:
"Urban messengers and their fakenger cousins have long known about narrow bars letting you squeeze in between traffic, even cutting their bars shorter than the width of their hips. There’s a benefit in racing too as riders can get into smaller gaps with narrower bars, something that matters for sprint trains. However high speed stability and control can be sacrificed."

Alexander Wang "Bike Lock"
"Biking has certainly become a much bigger deal again in recent years. Even with the entire fixed gear trend slowing down a little, people did get the message – biking is good for the city and for you. As such we come across cool bike accessories all the time and even fashion brands make sure that you are properly equipped."
Riiiight, from here.

Sign of the times for 2012. The Fixie Apocalypse is finally here?
Here's another interesting "build" out of Tokyo to further prove the point:

Adidas Prototype Bicycle Polo SPD Sneakers
Fugly kicks ATMO, but is bicycle polo going to be real big or what? SPD compatible too so let's all hope that Adidas has something else too - bit nicer looking spd sneakers! - in the pipeline for 2012.

Louis Vuitton Polo Bike
Louis Vuitton Polo Bike with all necessary accessories.
Is this the end of bike polo as we know it?
"Recently Louis Vuitton teamed up with polo bike players Hannes Hengst and Grégory Barbier to produce their very own LV Polo Bike. The details of each part of the bike are very impressive.
“From the embossed leather pedal straps and mallet holders, to the machined chainring (by Victoire), etched barplugs, via the leather wheel cover, culminating with a spectacular hollowed out mallet head, attached to a fully wrapped shaft. All of it using the classic Vuitton patterns and shapes.”
Intersection Magazine France were the first to get it in front of their lens and present it in their current issue."

Rapha Goes MTB: Privateer #1
Makers of Rapha's Rouleur road cycling magazine have decided to do a MTB magazine, Privateer. Which is nice, now were only waiting for Rapha's MTB range of clothing, right? As well as from their website, you can also get the first issue of Privateer from Wiggle.
Also, interestingly Rapha has completely dropped their 'Fixed' products, or actually changed all of them over into their City Riding line instead. Sign of the times?
Anyway, I'm happy with this because I just got me a new rigid steel single speed 650B (yes...) MTB, my first proper off-road bike in years.

Low is the New High // H+Son BOXXX
Brand new H+Son super low box section clincher rims, soon available polished and hard anodized in all normal drillings, and looking lovely.
So, these were officially first seen in the Interbike in Vegas two days ago but those in the know had been onto these for sometime already. I guess I need to point out that no one else out there is currently making anything as classic and classy as these. These will be big, mark my words.

Apple "Smart Bicycle System"
"The US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application Thursday for a "Smart Bicycle System" that would use an iPod or iPhone to monitor sensor data and wirelessly share information.
The patent application, discovered by Patently Apple, contains functionality similar to the Nike + iPod Sport Kit integration for runners. Using external and internal sensors, an iPhone or iPod would store and relay useful information while attached to a bicycle.
Although similar products (bicycle computers) already exist, the Cupertino, Calif., company's solution would take advantage of sensors already built into its devices, such as gyroscopes and accelerometers. Using an iPod or iPhone could potentially reduce costs, setup, and the need for complex attachments. Another added benefit would be the possibility of sharing recorded information with other cyclists."
