Just because for a long time he was the fastest, simple as that.
"Francesco Moser was the first man to break the 50 km/h barrier. Eddy Merckx, the last rider with a "normal" bike, clocked 49.431 km in 1972. Moser used disc-wheels and a bullhorn-bar. This would become the standard time-trial equipment in the next years. I show his second attempt, where he reached 51.151 km."
I was just checking out the Road CC's report on track / fixed gear bikes from the Eurobike 2009 and at least looking at the pics they've posted so far, I'm not very impressed. Maybe I've just become too jaded for this 'ish but all the off-the-shelf complete builds different brands are now offering for the would-be fixie riders look either ugly or plain boring to me. But maybe that's just me.
The only bike I genuinely liked was the Look ALP 464 track machine, above.
Well, the Cinelli X Mash bike is always nice too, of course, but on the other hand, I'm not at all sure about the other new Cinelli Gazzetta Fixie, at the bottom there.
Anyone of you about to visit Japan, you absolutely need to check this out: 'Map of bicycle in Japan'
It's nice Google Maps app of all of Japan with plenty of bike shops, Keirin builders' workshops, Velodromes etc. listed with addresses, links and so on. Super nice!
And I believe the thing is compiled by Kentaro so thank him.
Everyone loves mixtes and when you got your own between one and five bikes all built up and ready, what you do?
Why, you build a real nice fixed or single speed mixte for your better half, of course. Here's a Motobecane by Mojo (above) and a Nishiki by Daniel (below). Both straight up lovely.
No, not really they don't. But the new Originals Winterized collection, the “OT-Tech” 'takes inspiration from cycling culture and blends classic Adi silhouettes with vibrant design and functional materials such as Gore-tex'.
Since my first pair of the legendary Adidas Jaguars when I was just kid, I've always been an Adidas type of guy and I admit kinda dig that MA-1 jacket.
Shot in Bristol, UK with a near army of fixed gear cyclists, the film will focus on the culture and social aspects of the scene here in the South West.

The full film will be released sometime in 2010.
