Kim's bikes (as well as the photography of his bikes) are always top notch and his new winter/offroad/whatever whip makes no difference.

I love the monstercross vibe here and would probably put some dirt dropbars on instead of the riser but that's just me. Those Panracer Firecross 700x45c were apparently pretty tight in the rear but fit nevertheless.

My secret Italian source has this neat looking Nesti time trial bike for sale for about 500€, shipped/negotiable. The size is 55x55cm. There's plenty more detailed pics and the bike geek in me really loves the rare Ofmega Mistral cranks on the bike. IMHO the coolest crankset design ever.

Anyway if you're interested, send me a message and I'l hook you up. The guy has more interesting geared Italian gems for sale too, like a real sweet 1970s Masi Corsa, a Bianchi, a Rossin, a Tommassini etc.

Yes, 'ish just got real.

It looks like it's really true, Helsinki will get an indoor velodrome in 2014, in Malmi district. A proper wooden 250mm all international standards fulfilling track. The hall itself will be a multi-use sports arena with handball, basketball and floorball courts, indoor boulder climbing walls etc.

The project is not officially published yet but we were given a secret private sneak peak of the plan yesterday and I can assure you that it looks super awesome in every way.

Level 5 marks the entry of non-messenger, non-cyclists. Its also the shortest time segment. (This is where the most deviations within the messenger community developed-aluminum frames and bars, the worst. Goofy “punk” accessories next.)
Level 6 is the explosion. Style bastardized
Level 7 is Babylon. No Style
Level 8 isn’t on the chart-Its all the deviations and cliques formed without influence of 1-4. It really has nothing to do with us, or cycling. It follows the current streetxwear/skateboard/bmx industry map.

The unofficial shadow Cyclocross Finnish Championships today at Louhela/Kaivoksela, Vantaa.

First batch of photos has surfaced, here. Plenty of people showed up and raced despite the snowy and icy conditions and the course was hard and technical just like it should be. Geared cx bikes were dime and dozen like always but here are photos of the best different styles, in the true VPCX spirit.

Seriously though, people who post their new fixy bieks to internet galleries and forums should quit calling them "builds". Because that's just stupid, you might have attached some parts on it but you didn't really build it.

This is semantics, but still: some unknown and very likely way underpaid person at some unknown faceless factory somewhere over in Taiwan or mainland China actually built a bicycle frame with the help of robots and big scary machines. It was imported to your country. Then you bought it. Then you probably took it to your LBS where someone installed some parts on it, you paid for their services and rode it home to get photos of it to post it on teh interwebz.

This marked the introduction of Gary Klein's welded aluminum frame to the public. I remember speaking to Gary Klein at the show that day. As you can see, the booth was bare-bones; I think he had a flier explaining his design idea. From my basic engineering knowledge, I understood what he was driving at, and realized this could be a real breakthrough. Little did I (and Gary) know that as usual, a Frenchman, Nicholas Barra, had beaten him to it by about 40 years. But I remember talking to Gary Klein and telling him that while the design and craftsmanship were great, I found his bicycle very ugly. He laughed and said "I think it's beautiful". Spoken like a true engineer.Note the steel (!) Cinelli track bars and stem, and the steel fork. Sugino track crankset."

People still actually race on nice vintage steel track bikes in many places, like these guys in Estonia. From the performance point of view it would probably make sense to sell these bikes on Ebay and get some contemporary aero aluminum instead but hey, steel is real, right?

It seems that Kusaka-san's Vivalo brand has been relaunched in Japan. No traces of Keirin track bikes on the site at the moment though, just traditional steel road bikes instead.

Found: List of Things to Pack for a Cycling Trip

This so awesome I had to steal it from Chainthug.

It's a list of things to pack for a cycling trip longer than 100 kilometres but less than 300 kilometres. And he found it between an old cycling book "Cykling och Cykelsport" from 1934!

I'm not gonna translate the full list but the point is that while it's old it's also almost completely modern, just all the basic stuff you would pack with you today. Things like basic tools, spare tubes, some clothing, a tooth brush, towel, a clock (which is a MUST according to the list), a drink flask, a map etc.

And according to the list for a trip longer than 300km you may also want to bring along some extras like "a photography machine" and "a spare pedal and axle".
